It can be described as ‘insightful’ when a speculative father-son pick makes their debut due to necessity over form comes through to average 1.5 goals a game, and Dear, whose father Paul won the 1991 Norm Smith Medal for the Hawks, was just that. After his debut, he was only dropped when Mitch Lewis was fit to play, and this was only for one game.
