The best ruckman in the SANFL gets his AFL opportunity at 26. The Norwood gun polled 34 votes to share the Magarey Medal after averaging 41.8 hit-outs, 20.1 disposals, 10 clearances and 4.3 tackles, form that also won him the Shearman Medal for the Coaches MVP and his second club best and fairest. Boyd played 15 VFL matches for Werribee in 2017-18 but it wasn’t until he arrived at the Redlegs in 2021 that he came of age, also claiming the Jack Oatey Medal for best afield in their 2022 Grand Final win.
