In a season bookended by injury, Day’s development and reputation as the Hawks’ next big thing continued to be enhanced. After missing the first six rounds due to a foot injury and taking a couple to get up to speed, Day’s impact on the Hawks’ play coincided with the creation of the ‘Hok Ball’ phenomenon. With his dancing feet and burst of speed, Day’s ability to extricate himself cleanly from the midfield complemented the work of his inside midfield colleagues. Averaging 4.6 tackles, Day’s toughness around the contest is sometimes overlooked. A friendly-fire collarbone injury in round 23 put paid to his season and the Hawks missed him in September, especially in the tight and tough semi-final loss to Port Adelaide.
